Someone introduced me to The Fun Theory today.  It’s an organization that believes if something is FUN, then it can change people’s behavior.  One of the videos is encouraging people to take the stairs instead of the escalator.  An interesting experiment, told well, with amazing outcomes.

Making behavior change fun seems so obvious.  I’ll exercise more if I’m having a good time.  I might even eat more carrot sticks if we called them crudite (croo-de-tay).

The ideas on this site encourage us to recycle, slow down, and exercise more.  But, I wonder how we can spread this idea to more critical areas in our community? How do we reduce youth crime, drug use, and teenage pregnancy? (Offer healthy alternative after-school activities to engage in.) How do we encourage a recovering meth addict to stay in recovery?  (Build them up and make it worth their while to keep coming back.)

I’m an optimistic person who knows that not all of the world’s problems can be addressed with sunshine and happiness.  But, if we had a little more fun, I bet we can get more done. It’s worth a ponder.

I like this group and really like this idea.  AND…

…it is sponsored by Volkswagen – my car of choice.  Now, I like them even more.
